Ontario Reggio Association in Collaboration with Reggio Children and NAREA

ORA Initiatives

May 25, 2024

The Ontario Reggio Association is excited to announce that we are organizing a Study Week in Reggio Emilia, May 20 – 24, 2024.  We are seeing a significant increase in interest in deeper engagement with the pedagogy that honours the intelligence of children, educators and families, and that strongly influenced our provincial document, How Does Learning Happen?  Hundreds have participated in our Piazza ORA series with Tiziana Filippini, and thousands participated in the professional learning associated with the Mosaic of Marks, Words, Material exhibition and atelier that was hosted in Toronto, Sudbury and Ottawa this past spring. Educators who have come with us on previous Study Weeks have said that the experience changed their life.

The fee (in Canadian dollars) for the Study Week and administrative costs is as follows:

Early Bird registration opens on September 15, 2023.  The cost is $2,300.

The full fee to be charged beginning on January 16, 2024 is $2,400.

Registration closes April 15, 2024.

Please note, the Study Week conference ends early on Wednesday, and, therefore, this cultural activity does not interfere with the regular schedule.

MOSAIC OF MARKS WORDS MATERIAL

Exhibition and Atelier of the Preschools and Infant-toddler Centers
Istituzione of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Italy

The Mosaic of Marks, Words, Material exhibition and atelier tells the story of research done in Reggio Emilia’s infant-toddler centres and preschools on mark making and drawing woven with narrative.

When the exhibition and atelier come to Ontario in the spring of 2023, there will be various ways to engage and participate. Please see details below about three different opportunities to experience this exhibition and atelier. More information about registration will be released in January.

Public Viewing Visits

The exhibition and atelier will be open to the public at no charge. Dates and times of public hours in each of the three cities to be released in January.

Interactive Atelier Sessions

Interactive Atelier sessions will be facilitated by “conductors”, or studio guides, who have been studying the Reggio Emilia Approach over a considerable period of time and have participated in professional learning with educators from Reggio Emilia. In addition to hands-on, minds-on opportunities to research combinations of mark-making tools and material supports, these sessions will also involve encounters with the exhibition. Capacity is limited to 18-20 participants, depending on the location, and registration will be through the Ontario Reggio Association (ORA) website. Cost will be $25 per participant and open to members of ORA only. If you are interested in purchasing a membership, please see the Membership section of our website. Information regarding registration for the Interactive Atelier Sessions will be released in January.

Augmented Group Visits

Private groups of up to 30 people can also book an Augmented Group Visit to the exhibition, which will include a facilitated discussion of an article that will be sent in advance and time to explore the atelier and materials with studio guides as resources. There will be a $375 fee for these three-hour group visits. This professional learning opportunity will be open to everyone, including ORA members and non-members. Registration information will be released in January. Please note, if you prefer to visit the exhibition and atelier on your own time, you can visit during public viewing open hours.
